Small stones in the shoes of Indian Politics - AK and KCR.- A comparison.

This is a famous Telugu poem, that describes how some minuscule articles in the creation create lot of trouble. I translated this thus.

A stone in shoe,
A fly near ear,
A speck in the eye,
A thorn in foot,
War in Pariwar,
Difficult to bear!

Telugu poem. Here (are) AK and KCR!

Politics is the art of the cunning. We can never say, with confidence that a man of politics will not play the cunning either in a spirit of service to the nation or with selfish motives. But, if a politician becomes one of the above five, it is difficult to bear such politicians.

I wanted to blog on 2nd June comparing these common traits in KCR and NCBN, the two Chief Ministers of the two states carved out of the erstwhile United AP. On 2nd June I was busy, by 8th June a murky affair involving a law maker of TDP and an independent nominated legislator were involved. So, I withdrew from the blogging.

Later events turned out murkier, with some Telugu news channels started airing, what is purportedly, an audio CD that claimed the voice was that of Chandrababu Naidu advising the independent legislator to accept some amount and vote for TDP. When I saw results TDP got 7 votes only, that is fairly short of the minimum 17 required for an MLC to be elected. Naturally, a doubt arises in the minds of people why Chandrababu tried to lure only one legislator to get ten votes. But the matter is sub judice and until a verdict comes we can not pre-judge whether the alleged legislator offered the money or not. Too pre-mature.

It is in anybody's knowledge that with new technology my or your photo may be circulated as shaking hands or otherwise with any other person, by photo shopping. Like this, words randomly picked up can be made as a speech or conversation by using modern technology and release a CD. It is as simple as that. Parakala Prabhakar said, it is is easy to mimicry voices of people. We cant say what really happened.

Yesterday, one episode left a mark on the already murky politics of Delhi, wherein Kejriwal has been creating one controversy or other to keep the pot boiling and escaping from his main duty of administering the state. If he is fighting corruption, it is good. But above that, there are bread and butter issues. Yesterday, when one of his ministers was arrested, he threw the blame on Modi, instead of asking his minister to come out clean. What he wants is controversy a day.

What makes these two stones in the shoes common? Both are poor politicians and poorer administrators. Both have a fear of losing their own charisma of doing something historical. KCR, by getting Telangana and AK by defeating the mighty BJP and Congress. But after occupying the seats, they have little knowledge of what to do. But they should appear to be doing something. So they create controversies, issue controversial statements and try to keep their hero image. NTR was doing this for a fortnight but experienced politicos restrained him later and he learned the art of politics.

Unfortunately these two politicians have advisers, who have no experience in both fields and try to play side kicks to them.

Let us take the case of KCR. Soon after assuming office, he went with bulldozers to demolish buildings in Nanakramguda. He vowed to demolish all illegal structures. Later he realized, half of Hyderabad twin cities had to be razed. Once the intoxication of creating news died down he was sober. Then he issued many controversial statements, issued many controversial GOs to create panic in settlers. These were stayed by courts. Initially, people took him seriously. Later, they enjoyed the circus. Then he announced a household survey, made people rush back to his state (they spent huge amounts to travel) completed the survey, made cash payments to all and sundry who made survey, created panic in settlers that they were being harassed, announced the results would be out in fortnight. Nothing further happened. Any good would be emulated by other states. Modi learned from the skills of Babu and he acknowledges it. But this survey died a natural death as other states realized it was a sham survey to play to the galleries. He continued to lure the legislators of other parties, offered them cabinet berths, or made them advisers with cabinet rank with no work. He has brow beaten the constitutional requirement of ten per cent of MLAs as Cabinet ministers thus, to lure other party legislators. So, now the pot is calling the kettle black.  If we narrate we can write a 400 page book on the stupid acts of this government under KCR and his family members.

Now, compare this with Kejriwal. He got unprecedented majority in the Assembly. He started with a bang, signed some orders, the impact of which is still unknown to Delhites. Then he started playing to the galleries. He started a murky fight with the LG, who is an appointee of the President of India. First he said he has no right to appoint officers. Then he asked officers to route all files through him to LG, which is again not the practice, hitherto followed. Then he said Delhi police was under his control. He played a drama of suicide to highlight farmers's issue that boomeranged on him. He blamed Modi for that and the police under Modi. Then came one episode where a car was parked in front of the house of one of his MLAs that was rumored to have been presented by an Industrialist or Transporter. Immediately he changed tack and said it was just parked and not donated. Already one MLA was facing charges of stacking liquor bottles during elections. He appointed 24 cabinet secretaries with cabinet rank to beat the constitutional requirement of 10 per cent of MLAs. (KCR method)

These two politicians have a pathological fear of Modi in case of AK and Chandrababu in case of KCR. KCR knows pretty well Chandrabau is more experienced, more cunning, has good rapport in Telangana too. AK knows Modi is too honest for him to point him out, he too has lot of following in Delhi and a no-nonsense statesman unbeatable in the current times. So, they stab themselves and sing melancholic songs to please the galleries. Both have a pathological fear of the their bete noirs. They can only survive by creating controversies, pretending to do something without any ground result and try to retain their vote banks.

KCR knows Hyderabad is not his fiefdom  for ten years. In the meantime Chandrababu started his own capital. So he won double points. He can claim rights in Hyderabad and simultaneously complete his capital that may be well ahead of Hyderabad and thus Hyderabad might lose in the game. Moreover, Andhra area can boast of better irrigation facilities, better farming practices, a long coastline, better transmission lines for power and strong Central support, though it is not apparent to common man. That is politics again. This an eyesore for KCR. So do something that people think is brave act. By continuously targeting Babu and Andhras he can not feed Telangana people. They will realize this sooner or later except a few hardcore supporters.

By continuously attacking Delhi police, Home Ministry, LG and and demanding full statehood that AK knows should go through Parliament, he can not offer everything free to Delhites except entertainment on NDTV. So he asks Auto wallahs to refuse plying. He appoints Bihar officers, a state known for its least corruption according to AK, to fight corruption in Delhi.

Both play to galleries. Both did nothing till now. Both create a controversy a day. Both are poor politicos. Both are poor administrators. Both have poor advisers. Both are trying to target two highly acclaimed statesmen, India had known in recent times and who were applauded by the world as visionaries. Fate of the two will be the same after two more years! Save this!
